The city as a gymn for universal brotherhood
The city is an exercise ground for fraternity: 60% of the world population lives within a city, where politicians try to match the needs with the resources. City life is a synthesis between active forces; it encourages the performance of associations and it orders the life of its inhabitants in its multiple aspects.
Perhaps the primary role of politics – all others are derived from this – is to promote an awareness that there exists a universal social bond that associates the destiny of peoples and persons. In this era of globalisation this project leads towards fraternity becoming a political category, and therefore one that implies action. In this action, the non-negotiable principles that emerge from the person’s dignity, like freedom, equality, subsidiarity, justice, etc., find a new way of expressing themselves.
